I have a V1 board and CM4 (8GB memory & 32 GB eMMC). I've had these laying around for quite some time but now have them in a case. Now I have questions about the OS choices. It looks like I have 2 choices:
Desktop Interceptor.
OMV 7 Interceptor.
I know there are other OS options but it appears some patches are needed and the kernal has to be built, which is not where I want to go.
These 2 images are from April 2024, which is about 9 months old as I write this. Today I imaged the CM4 with the OMV 7 image. When it came up, there were 60+ updates available, so I decided to apply all of them. Problem is, the update stopped and a "connection lost" line of text appeared. This was repeatable.
Now I'm wondering if you expect customers to update the images you supply at all? I'm not sure whether I was supposed to do that update or not?
I may try imaging the Desktop image. I assume an "apt-get update" and "apt-get upgrade" is going to produce a lot of updates. Should people using the V1 carrier board be doing those updates?
I'm very used to updating a Rasperberry Pi on a regular basis, but this carrier board workflow is not clear to me.
Great question, @abreuma677. We are currently producing new images with the latest 6.12.x kernel and updated packages. These will include new builds for all platforms, along with support for the Raspberry Pi CM5.
You should have no issues updating your packages. I’ve been using the same image daily and recently ran apt update && apt upgrade on a fresh system without any problems. If you need or want to update your image, you can safely do so.
Regarding the “connection lost” issue you encountered—were you able to reboot successfully afterward? Have you experienced this issue elsewhere? Also, just to clarify, did you run apt update before performing apt upgrade? It’s an easy step to miss but ensures everything runs smoothly.
Let me know how it goes, or if there’s anything else I can help with!
