I'm using a CM4 8/32 with an Interceptor Carrier Board and the 270W power supply in the 1U case with two 8TB HDDs. I've exchanged the 4 fans that were included in the case against 2 Noctua fans with lower power consumption and noise. The whole build consumes around 32W without load. With the HDDs in standby I can get it down to 25W.
I'm very happy with the build and everything works as expected, but I am wondering how I could reduce the power consumption. According to spec a CM4 should not consume more than 7W (probably a lot less when idling). The HDDs consume 4W each when idling. The Noctua fans are another 0.6W each. This leaves at least 16W (probably closer to 20W; more than 50% of the build's total consumption) to the Interceptor and the power supply, which seems a bit high to me.
Do you have any information on the power consumption of the Interceptor or the power supply?
Do you have any suggestions on how to reduce the power consumption? Are there any kernel settings to turn off functionality/ports of the Interceptor? Different power supply if the supplied one is not efficient?
@Axzez Support I would also like to know more about the power saving options. I am currently sipping 14.5 Watts in Iddle, and I have switched of the wifi/bluetooth that is build in with `raspi-config` and spin down the disk when in idle. I still think this is a lot considering that a regular NAS can go as low 5 watts in idle..
You have to subtract another 6.4W for the PSU (32W * 0.2). You also have to subtract 5W for the usb hub, ethernet switch, and hdd controller. That leaves 5.4W (32 - 6.4 - 2 * 4 - 2 * 0.6 - 7 - 5). You also have to subtract any powered USB devices.
