We’re excited to introduce a pre-release of our Axzez Interceptor OS Installer, now with full Raspberry Pi CM5 support! We’ve rebuilt the OS from the ground up, incorporating the latest software packages, bug fixes, and highly requested features. Our build system has also been streamlined for easier maintenance and faster development.
What’s Inside?
Latest Kernel – Based on the Raspberry Pi OS Linux kernel
Debian Bookworm – The foundation of the OS
PoE Device Support – Drivers included
Unified Image – One OS install image for both CM4 & CM5
Installation Notes
For CM4 – Install via eMMC (RPi I/O Board), USB, or SD Card (for Interceptor v2.0 boards).
For CM5 – Install via RPi I/O Board or SD Card (USB boot isn’t supported due to the CM5’s dedicated USB2 setup).
When using SD Card - you must have a Raspberry Pi Lite CM!

Pre-Release Status – Currently under testing, with only minor issues currently being worked on.
What’s Next?
If no issues are reported with the OS pre-release, we will release it officially in about a week. Feel free to report issues in this thread or by emailing support [at] axzez [dot] com.
More builds are on the way, including OMV, OpenWRT, and updated BananaPi CM4 support. Stay tuned!
Also related: when I use the previous image I had downloaded from 3-23, the squashfs boot volume is read-only, and all changes I make when booting normally are thrown away after reboot. Is this intentional of the final image, or a setting to help facilitate testing? I'm not sure how to modify this to be rw.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but both download image links now give me an access denied error. I made sure to check that they're updated links, and they both are w/ the 3-27 filename. Can you check the bucket permissions so I can try to download the images again later?
New images were just uploaded, with what we think are the final pre-release fixes (minor issues). We are still actively working on the Banana Pi CM4 image and hope to have a testable image for you shortly. For OMV (@everyplace), we recommend using the Axzez Server image linked above (default credentials are admin/admin) and following these instructions: https://wiki.omv-extras.org/doku.php?id=omv7:raspberry_pi_install#install_omv With that, you should be up and running in no time at all!
Let me know when you want a tester for the OMV image. I am ready to upgrade, have the RPI I/O board, and pulled my 1u rack, which is now saying "upgrade me, please!"
All, both images were updated this evening and contain several fixes and improvements. For the CM5, this is very close to the final release. One a few small fixes are still needed. The CM4 is also very close, but needs a bit more work than the CM5. We are also actively working on the Banana Pi CM4 image and hope to have a testable image for you shortly.
We are seeing issues with the Server image on CM4, but nothing preventing the OS from being used. We will automatically update the images at the above links as fixes are made. I'll be sure to note here in the comments as updates are made.
